-- North Alabama's bats came to life
Saturday as the Lions ripped 25 hits and
scored 24 runs in a double-header sweep of
Arkansas-Monticello at University Field. UNA
won the opening game 10-1 and completed the
sweep with a 14-0 win in the nightcap.

(2-0) got the win in the opener, allowing
just one run on two hits over six innings.
Frank Dougherty pitched one scoreless inning
in relief. UAM took a 1-0 lead in the
second inning but UNA answered with four
runs of its own in the bottom of the second.
The Lions added three more in the fifth and
three in the sixth.
Josh Phillips
led UNA with three hits in the game and two
runs batted in. Trey Pollard, Ross Parker
and Caleb Kidd added two hits each.
In the second
game, UNA batted around in the first inning
and scored six runs off UAM starter Ross
Ashley. The Lions added two runs in the
second inning, one in the third and five in
the fifth. Josh Graham broke out of an
early season slump and had two hits and
drove in four runs in the nightcap. Nick
Newberry, A.J. Reed and Matt Horton added
two hits each. Horton also hit the team's
first home run this season in 14 games.
Richard Brindle (4-0) got the win in six
innings of work. He allowed just two hits,
walked two and struckout eight.
Brandon Foster pitched a scoreless seventh
inning. With the sweep, UNA is now 8-6
overall.
