FLORENCE
-- The North Alabama pitching staff ran its
string of consecutive scoreless innings to
21 and Josh Graham and Ret Pollard homered
as the Lions complete a series sweep of
Arkansas- Monticello, 6-0.
UNA, now 9-6
overall, downed the Boll Weevils 10-1 and
14-0 Saturday and completed the sweep Sunday
behiind the combined pitching of Justin
Walters, Mitch Hill and Frank Dougherty.
Walters pitched
6.2 innings, allowing just two hits and two
walks while striking out seven. Hill
came out for two outs in the seventh and
Dougherty pitched the final two innings,
allowing just one walk and one hit.
UNA got on the
board in the third inning when A.J. Reed
reached on an error, Daniel Johnson singled
and Graham hit a three-run homer to left
field. An RBI single by Caleb Kidd in the
fourth made it 4-0 and a solo home run by
Pollard in the fifth made it 5-0. The final
run came in the sixth on an RBI double by
Matt Horton.
The Lions
finished with 11 hits to just three for UAM.
Walters (2-1) got the win for UNA, while
Kyle Thaxton (0-2) took the loss in 5 2/3
innings.
Horton, Johnson
and Ross Parker had two hits each for UNA.
