FLORENCE
-- North Alabama combined 22 hits and 12
bases on balls to roll past Drury 8-2 and
14-4 in a baseball double-header Saturday at
University Field.
Jeff Schafer
(3-0) gave up a run in the first inning but
recovered to go the distance for UNA in the
opener, while Brandon Foster (1-1) picked up
the win in the nightcap in relief of Richard
Brindle.
With the sweep,
UNA is now 11-6-1, while Drury falls to 3-5.
UNA out-hit
Drury 11 to five in the opener and scored
two runs in the first inning, one in the
second, three in the third, one in the
fourth and one in the sixth. Josh Phillips
led the hit parade with two triples, while
scoring three times and driving in another
run. A.J. Reed, Daniel Johnson and Trey
Pollard also had two hits each.
Schafer allowed
two runs on five hits over seven innings,
walking two and striking out seven.
In the
nightcap, UNA got a run in the first inning
and added two in the third for a 3-0 lead.
Brindle cruised through the first three
innings but was forced from the game in the
fourth after wllowing three runs on three
hits. He allowed seven total hits and walked
three in 3 1/3 innings.
Foster came on
to halt the Drury threat and the Lions
quickly put the game out of reach in the
bottom of the innings. UNA combined four
walks from Drury pitchers, two hit batters
and four hits to score eight runs in the
bottom of the fourth for an 11-3 advantage.
UNA got two more runs in the fifth and added
one in the sixth to make it 14-3.
Foster left the
game after the sixth inning, having allowed
no runs and just two hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Frank Dougherty came on to pitch the seventh
and struggled before finally ending the
game. He allowed one hit, walked two batters
and hit one to force in a run.
Phillips again
had two hits, scored three runs and drove in
two. Johnson, Andrew Knerr and Ross Parker
also had two hits each.
