SEARCY, Ark.
-- The University of North Alabama baseball
team blew a three-run lead in the bottom of
the seventh inning of the opener but
rebounded in the nightcap to earn a split at
Harding. UNA lost the opener 8-7 after
leading 7-4 going to the bottom of the
seventh. The Lions won the second game 3-0
behind a complete- game pitching performance
from Pat Allison.
UNA is now 13-7-1 entering a weekend series
at home against Henderson State.
In the opening
game Tuesday, UNA fell behind 3-0 in the
fourth inning but had a four- run fifth
inning to take the lead. The Bisons tied the
game with a run in the bottom of the fifth
and it remained 4-4 until UNA exploded for
three runs in the top of the seventh.
Brandon Foster walked the leadoff batter in
the seventh and Frank Dougherty was called
on to try and save the game. Dougherty was
then roughed up for three runs on three hits
in the inning before allowing a two-run
double that gave Harding the lead and ended
the game.
Justin Fleming
started for UNA and pitched five innings,
allowing four runs on seven hits. Foster
came on to pitch the sixth before giving way
to Dougherty. Josh Phillips led UNA in the
opener, going 4-for-4 with a walk and a run
scored. Trey Pollard added three hits and
Jarrett Shepherd had two runs batted in.
Allison was in
complete control of the second game,
allowing just three hits, walking two and
striking out seven. UNA got two runs in the
third inning and added a single run in the
fourth for the 3-0 win. A.J. Reed and Josh
Graham had two hits each for the Lions.
