FLORENCE
-- Down 5-0 in the third inning, the
University of North Alabama finally broke
out its bats and pounded Christian Brothers
12-6 at University Field.
Christian
Brothers scored five runs off reliever Frank
Dougherty in the top of the third inning but
UNA rallied for six runs of its own in the
bottom of the third. The Lions then added
two runs in the fifth inning, two in the
sixth and two in the seventh for the win.
Derrick
Simpson, the third Lion pitcher in the game,
got the win in two innings of work.
He allowed no
runs on two hits, walked one and struckout
one in improving to 1-2. Pat Allison, who
came on in the fifth, pitched 4 1/3 innings
in getting his second save of the year. He
allowed one run on four hits. Justin Fleming
started the game for UNA and pitched two
scoreless innings.
Josh Phillips
and Daniel Johnson continued to lead the UNA
offense with three hits each. Nick
Newberry and Ross Parker also had three hits
each in UNA's 18-hit attack. A.J. Reed was
2-for-5 and had three runs batted in.
UNA is now 16-8-1 overall, while Christian
Brothers falls to 13-9.
