-- The University of North Alabama
got solid pitching performances from Jeff
Schafer and Richard Brindle and rolled to a
double-header sweep of Clark-Atlanta, 4-0
and 12-1 at University Field. The sweep
extends UNA's winning streak to seven games
and ups the Lions overall record to 27-14-1.
Schafer allowed
just three hits over six innings in the
opener, while striking out 10, to get the
win. He is now 7-3. Nick Newberry, who has
not allowed an earned run this season in 10
pitching appearances, pitched a scoreless
seventh inning.
UNA got a run
in the first inning, added a two-run homer
from Josh Graham in the third and added a
run in the sixth.
In the second
game, UNA scored six runs in the first
inning and added one in the second, three in
the third and two in the fifth. The lone run
for the Panthers was a solo home run from
Cleveland Brownlee in the second inning.
Brindle (7-1)
went the distance, allowing just three hits
and striking out 10.
The Lions had
12 hits in the nightcap, led by Andrew Knerr,
Ross Parker, Josh Graham, Daniel Johnson and
Matt Horton with two each.
North Alabama
hosts Trevecca Tuesday in a single game at 4
p.m.
