HENDERSON, Tenn.
-- North Alabama's pitching staff
surrendered five runs in the bottom of the
eighth inning to blow a 7-6 lead and hand
Freed-Hardeman a 10-7 come-from-behind win
over the Lions.
UNA, now 2-2
overall, led 7-6 entering the last of the
eighth but Brandon Foster walked two batters
and hit another before Richard Brindle was
brought on to try and stop the threat.
Brindle then walked Riley Hendrix and gave
up hits to Gregg Allen and Jarrett Jones and
Freed-Hardeman rallied for the win.
UNA took a 1-0
lead in the second inning as Jarrett
Shepherd singled and later scored on a Ross
Parker groundout. The Lions added a run in
the fourth as Daniel Johnson doubled, stole
third and scored on a Nick Newberry
sacrifice fly.
Freed-Hardeman
got three runs in the fourth off UNA starter
Jeff Schafer to take a 4-2 lead. North
Alabama got a run back in the top of the
fifth as Parker reached on an error and came
in to score on an RBI groundout by Josh
Phillips. Freed-Hardeman got a run back in
the fifth to make it 5-3 but UNA took the
lead back with three runs in the top of the
sixth.
UNA combined
two errors, two walks and three stolen bases
to push three runs across.
Matt Horton
singled in the seventh and scored on an
error to give UNA an insurance run but it
didn't hold up.
Foster (0-1) took the loss for UNA.
The Lions play
at Delta State in a three-game series this
weekend.
