FLORENCE -- North
Alabama used a five-run second
inning and solid pitching from
Jeff Schafer and Frank Dougherty
to post an 8-2 win over
Bellarmine at University Field
Saturday.
With the win the Lions improve
to 4-4 overall. The game
was the season-opener for
Bellarmine. UNA jumped out
to a 5-0 lead in the second
inning as the Lions sent eight
batters to the plate. A.J.
Reed got a one-out single and
Ross Parker then singled with
two away. Caleb Kidd had an RBI
single for the first run. A
successful double steal plated
the second run and Nick Newberry
followed with a walk. A triple
by Josh Phillips scored two runs
for a 4-0 lead and Phillips then
scored on a single by Matt
Horton to make it 5-0.
The Lions added a run in the
fifth when Phillips singled,
stole second and scored on a
wild pitch. Bellarmine got both
of its runs in the top of the
sixth amd UNA got one back in
the bottom of the inning on a
throwing error by the Knights. |
