FLORENCE -- The North
Alabama baseball team took a
double-header from Bellarmine
Sunday, 4-2 and 6-2, to complete
a three-game sweep of the
Knights at University Field.
UNA
improved to 6-4 with the sweep,
which was sparked by solid
pitching from four Lion hurlers.
Richard Brindle (3-0) got the
win in the opener, allowing two
runs on five hits over six
innings. Frank Dougherty came on
in relief to get the save for
the second straight game,
striking out all three batters
that he faced.
Bellarmine took a 1-0 lead in
the third inning but UNA rallied
with two runs in the fourth, one
in the fifth and one in the
sixth.
In the fourth, Matt Horton
walked a stole second base.
Daniel Johnson singled and
Horton then scored on the front
end of a double-steal with
Johnson. After Johnson moved up
on an error, he scored on a
sacrifice fly by Josh Graham.
Trey Pollard
doubled to start the fifth inning and later
scored on a balk to make it 3-1. UNA's
final run came in the sixth as Johnson
singled and went to second on an error. A.J.
Reed then drove in Johnson with a sacrifice
bunt. Brindle allowed two hits and a
run to start the seventh before Dougherty
came on to stop the threat.
In the second
game, UNA got a run in the first inning and
four in the second to take control of the
game. |
