BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
-- The University of North Alabama baseball
team has been picked to finish fourth in the
East Division in a pre-season poll of Gulf
South Conference baseball coaches.
UNA also had
three players selected for the pre-season
All-GSC team.
Senior
shortstop Matt Horton of Cleveland, Ala.,
senior pitcher Jeff Schafer of Hamilton,
Miss., and junior outfielder Trey Pollard of
Mobile were selected by the GSC coaches for
the pre-season team.
Coming off a
32-21-1 record in 2007, UNA received 21
points in the voting and finished fourth in
the East Division behind West Florida (32),
West Alabama (31) and Montevallo (28). UNA
was followed in the East Division by
Valdosta State, West Georgia and
Alabama-Huntsville.
Delta State was
picked to be the overall GSC champion.
UNA opens its
2008 season at home on February 8 against
Arkansas-Monticello.
