ARKADELPHIA, Ark.
– The University of North Alabama
baseball team dropped a pair of one-run
games to second ranked Ouachita Baptist by
identical 4-3 scores in the Tigers final
at-bats Wednesday.
The sweep drops
UNA to 12-5 overall while OBU improved to
18-2.
In the opening
game, scheduled for seven innings, Ouachita
Baptist led 3-0 until the top of the seventh
when UNA scored three runs to tie the game.
The game remained tied until the ninth when
the Tigers pushed across the winning run.
In the second
game, UNA got three runs in the third inning
and led until the Tigers tied the game in
the bottom of the sixth. Ouachita Baptist
then won the game with a pair of singles and
a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Both teams had
six hits in the opener, with three Lion
pitchers combining to stiffle the Tigers.
Starter Branden Tepe went 5 2/3 innings and
allowed three runs on five hits. Ryan Miller
pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Matt
Vandenheuvel (2-1) took the loss, allowing
one run and one hit in 1 2/3 innings.
Vandenheuvel
(2-2) also took the loss in game two,
allowing one run on three hits in 1 1/3
innings. Brennen Auerbach started the game
and lasted three innings. Miller pitched the
two middle innings, allowing one run.
UNA outhit OBU
10-7 in the second game. Jeffery Ritter and
Matt Horton led UNA with two hits each and
Josh Graham drove in two runs.
Ritter extended
his hitting streak to 12 games and he now
has multiple hits in 12 of the 15 games he
has played in at UNA.
The Lions
schedule has changed for this weekend, with
games cancelled at Arkansas Tech. Instead
the Lions will host a Saturday double-header
at University Field beginning at 1 p.m.
against Missouri-St. Louis
