FLORENCE
-- The University of Alabama scored five
runs in the first inning and scored in six
of the seven frames Tuesday night as the
Crimson Tide downed North Alabama 17-2 at
University Field.
In a game that
served as the stadium dedication for the
recently renovated University Field, Alabama
visited the Shoals for the first time since
1967 and pounded three UNA pitchers for 17
runs on 17 hits.
UNA drops to
13-6 with the loss, while Alabama improved
to 8-5. North Alabama was held to just four
hits in the game and the Lions only runs
came in the third inning when Qualon
Millender walked and Matt Horton followed
with a two-run home run.
After getting
five runs in the first, Alabama added one in
the second, five in the third, one in the
fourth, four in the fifth and one in the
seventh. The game was stopped after seven
innings.
UNA starter
Branden Tepe (3-1) took the loss, lasting
just one third of an inning. He faced eight
batters and allowed five runs on five hits,
a walk and he hit two batters. Ryan Miller
pitched two innings and gave up five runs on
six hits and Matt Vandenheuvel picthed the
final four and 2/3, allowing seven runs on
seven hits.
Casey Kebodeaux
(2-1) got the win for Alabama, allowing two
runs on four hits over four innings. Austin
Evans and Connor Hoehn pitched in relief for
the Tide and didn't allow a hit.
Daniel Johnson
had two of UNA's four hits. Alex Avila led
Alabama at the plate, going two-for-three
with two home runs and seven runs batted in.
Alex Kubal also homered for Alabama.
UNA hosts
Christian Brothers today (Wednesday) at 2
p.m. at University Field.
