FLORENCE -- The University of North Alabama got two solid pitching performances from its starters, good relief pitching and consistent hitting Sunday in sweeping a Gulf South Conference double-header from West Georgia, 12-3 and 5-2.

The sweep gives UNA a 2-1 series win over West Georgia after dropping Saturday's game 10-9. The Lions are now 16-7 overall and the Wolves drop to 20-6.

Jeff Schafer (4-2) gave UNA seven strong innings to win the opener and Brennen Auerbach (3-0) allowed just two hits in six 2/3 innings of game two to lead UNA to the wins.

UNA wasted little time jumping on the Wolves, scoring five runs in the first inning of the opener.

Qualon Millender and Matt Horton had singles and moved up on a sacrifice by Jeffery Ritter. Cole Mitchel followed with an RBU and Josh Graham cleared the bases with a three-run homer. Nick Newberry doubled and the final run scored on an RBI single from Ross Parker.

West Georgia used a walk to Adam Matos and a Jud Jones double to cut the lead to 5-1 in the top of the second but UNA got the run back on a Graham RBI single in the bottom of the inning.

The Wolves got two runs in the fourth on an Andrew Parish single, a Matos RBI double and an RBI single from Jones. That would be it for the West Georgia offense, however, and UNA added six more runs over the final four innings. Trey Pollard singled in a run in the fifth and UNA got two in the sixth when Parker singled and scored on an error and Ritter singled in a run.

The Lions got three more runs in the bottom of the eighth and then loaded the bases with no outs but couldn't push another run across. Millender scored on a wild pitch and Horton and Mitchell had RBI singles.

UNA out-hit West Georgia 16-9 in the game.

Brian Futral (3-1) took his first loss of the season, allowing 12 runs on 15 hits in seven innings.

West Georgia took the lead in the nightcap with a run in the second inning but UNA took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning. Millender singled and Horton tripled him in. Ritter followed with a double to make it 2-1. In the fifth Millender was hit by a pitch and later scored on a Mitchell RBI single.

With two runs in the bottom of the sixth, on Kyle Jones and Millender RBI singles, UNA made it 5-1.

uerbach, who carried a one-hitter into the seventh, allowed a two-out solo homer to Jones and then walked the next batter before being pulled. Matt Vandenheuvel got Cody Jackson to pop up to third to end the game and get his second save of the season. Mike Furman (0-1) took the complete-game loss for West Georgia.
