FLORENCE
-- The University of North Alabama baseball
team used a 12-hit attack and solid pitching
to record its third straight win Tuesday,
downing Faulkner 9-3 at University Field.
The Lions, now
17-7, fell behind 1-0 in the second inning
and 2-1 in the third. UNA then scored eight
runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth
innings to put the game out of reach.
Starter Trey
Mitchell of Florence (2-1) got the win,
allowing two runs on four hits over three
innings. Justin Fleming then pitched the
middle three innings, allowing one run on
three hits. Ryan Miller pitched the final
three innings to record his first save. He
allowed no hits or runs, walked on and
struckout two.
Trey Pollard
sacrificed in Cole Mitchell in the second
inning to tie the game in the second. In the
fourth, Josh Graham singled and later scored
on an error and Kyle Jones scored on a balk
to give UNA a 3-2 lead. Cole Mitchell
sacrificed in a run in the fifth,Graham
singled in another, Pollard doubled in the
third and Jones closed the scoring with a
two-run homer. Qualon Millender tripled in
the sixth and scored on a Jackson Agee
sacrifice to make it 9-3.
Graham, Andrew
Knerr and Matt Horton led UNA with two hits
each.
The Lions play
at West Florida on Friday and Saturday in a
three-game Gulf South Conference series.
