PENSACOLA, Fla.
-- The University of North Alabama
baseball team managed just 14 hits in two
games Saturday as the Lions were swept in a
Gulf South Conference double-header by West
Florida, 4-1 and 11-8.
The sweep drops
UNA to 17-9 overall and 2-3 in the GSC.
In the opener,
UWF's Justin Ramsey scattered six UNA hits
over nine innings and allowed just one run
as the Argonauts picked up the win. Branden
Tepe took the loss for UNA, allowing four
runs on five hits over 7 1/3 innings. He
struckout eight and walked four. Ross Parker
drove in Nick Newberry for the Lions' only
run.
The UNA bats
came to life in the nightcap to push across
nine runs but Lion pitchers Jeff Schafer and
Matt Vandenheuvel allowed five runs each and
Ryan Miller surrendered one in the 11-9
loss.
UNA led 5-3
entering the bottom of the fifth when West
Florida put eight runs on the board for an
11-5 lead.
The Lions got
four back in the top of the sixth but that
was close as UNA got.
Cole Mitchell
led UNA in the second game with two hits,
two runs scored and two runs driven in.
North Alabama
and West Florida will meet again today in
the final game of the series.
