MONTEVALLO, Ala.
-- After winning the opening game of a Gulf
South Conference series Saturday, the
University of North Alabama dropped the
final two games to Montevallo, 4-3 and 6-1.
The sweep drops
UNA to 19-13 overall and the Lions are 4-5
in the Gulf South Conference East Division.
North Alabama
is now tied for fourth place in the
division.
The second game
of the series was suspsended on Saturday
with Montevallo ahead 4-3 in the fourth
inning.
Neither team
scored when play resumed Sunday and the
Falcons held on for the win. Jeff Schafer
(4-3) took the loss for UNA, allowing four
runs on three hits over two innings. Justin
Fleming pitched four hitless innings and
struckout five but UNA couldn't force any
runs in. The Lions out-hit Montevallo 8-3
and the Falcons didn't score a run after the
first inning.
In the final
game of the series, UNA took a 1-0 lead in
the first inning on a solo home run by
Jeffery Ritter.
Montevallo tied
the game with a run in the third, took a 2-1
lead in the fifth and then scored four
insurance runs in the seventh. UNA was
out-hit 12-9 but Cole Mitchell and Ritter
had three hits each for the Lions.
Brennen
Auerbach took the loss, allowing five runs
on 10 hits over 6 1/3 innings.
