FLORENCE
-- After squandering a 4-0 lead, the
University of North Alabama baseball team
rallied from a 6-4 deficit in the seventh
inning to post a 10-7 win over Lambuth
Wednesday at Mike D. Lane Field.
UNA, now 25-17,
led 4-0 after five innings as Lion starter
Jeff Schafer allowed just two hits. When
Schafer gave way to Lion relievers in the
sixth, things began to unravel for the
Lions. Justin Fleming allowed three runs on
two hits in just 2/3 of an inning, and
Branden Teppe was tapped for three runs on
three hits without recording an out. Brennen
Auerbach (4-2) got the win as he allowed
just two hits and no runs in 1 2/3 innings.
Kyle Jones
walked with one out in the seventh and stole
second. Qualon Millender singled and he and
Jones scored on a Collin Murphy single to
tie the game. After a fly-out, Josh Graham
reached on catcher's interference and Trey
Pollard singled in the go-ahead run. A Cole
Mitchell triple sent two more runs home and
Matt Horton singled in Mitchell with the
final run.
After Matt
Vandenheuvel pitched 1 1/3 innings of
relief, Ryan Miller came on to record his
third save of the season.
Lambuth is now
25-16.
UNA plays a
three-game Gulf South Conference series at
West Alabama this Saturday and Sunday.
