Return to UNA Baseball Homepage >>>

MILLINGTON, Tenn. --  Fresh off a sweep of Alabama-Huntsville in its final regular-season series, the University of North Alabama baseball team will begin its quest for a Gulf South Conference crown Saturday when the Lions face Delta State at 4:15 at USA Stadium in the first round of the GSC Tournament.

UNA, 29-19 overall and fourth in the GSC East Division, will face the GSC West Division champion Statesmen.

The Lions haven't won a GSC baseball crown since 1999 and missed the tournament last season. UNA reached the semifinals in 2006 and the finals in 2005, both in Millington.

North Alabama entered the final conference series tied with Alabama-Huntsville for fourth place in the East and locked in a battle for the final conference tournament spot. UNA ralied for a 10-4 win in the opener and added a 6-2 victory in the nightcap to keep its season alive.

North Alabama has won five GSC baseball titles, all under current head coach Mike Lane. He led the Lions to a GSC championship in his first season at the school in 1984, and has added GSC titles in 1989, 1993, 1995 and 1999.
