BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
-- The University of North Alabama swept
this week's Gulf South Conference East
Division baseball honors with Jeffery Ritter
selected Player of the Week and Branden Tepe
Pitcher of the Week.
Ritter, a
junior outfielder from South Rockwood,
Mich., earned his second award of the season
in just his fourth week in the GSC. He led
North Alabama to a 3-1 record that included
a three-game sweep of West Division foe
Harding. Ritter had at least two hits and an
RBI in all four games, reaching base 13
times in 18 plate appearances. In
Wednesday’s mid-week tilt with then-No. 4
Delta State, Ritter was three-for-four with
two doubles and an RBI. Despite the loss to
the Statesmen, the junior was instrumental
in all three wins this past weekend against
the Bisons. In the first contest his
RBI-single in the eighth ended the game by
the 10-run rule, 11-1.
Ritter’s
three-run bomb in the third inning of the
nightcap put UNA ahead for good, 10-7 and
his RBI single in the eighth inning of
Sunday’s finale broke an 8-8 tie in which
the Lions won, 11-8.
Tepe, a junior
from Mishawka, Ind., was named pitched of
the week after pitching 9 2/3 innings and
allowing just one run. He pitched 3 1/3
hitless innings of relief against Delta
State. He followed that with a 6 1/3 inning
start against Harding where he earned the
win, alowing just one run. He was perfect
through the first four innings, retiring the
first 12 batters he faced.
