FLORENCE
-- University of North Alabama
Director of Athletics Mark Linder has
announced the hiring of Jana Morrison as
associate director of athletics with UNA.
Morrison, who worked for nine years as
Assistant Director of Event Management at
the University of Alabama, will join the UNA
staff on November 26. Her duties with the
UNA program will include serving as Senior
Woman Administrator, and compliance and
academics coordinator.
Morrison fills a void in
the North Alabama department left when
former Associate AD and SWA Sherry Kennemer
left UNA for a similar position at
Southeastern Louisiana University in July.
"I think Jana will be a great fit for our
staff and we're excited about the level of
experience she brings to UNA," said Linder,
who became UNA's athletic director in
August.
"It’s a great honor for me to become a part
of the University of North Alabama,"
Morrison said. "There is a rich history at
UNA of not only winning various
championships but of the high level of
integrity and character under which these
accomplishments have occurred.
"It
is widely known that great endeavors start
with the vision of those at the top. To
that end, I am looking forward to working
with the President, Athletic Director, and
other University staff to continue this
initiative at UNA and within the Florence
community."
Morrison is a graduate of Stetson University
if DeLand, Fla., with a Bachelor of Science
in Sports Administration degree. She also
has a Master of Science in
Education/Athletic Administration from
Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.
She was a member of the University of
Alabama athletic staff from 1997 to 2006 and
coordinated numerous Southeastern Conference
and NCAA tournaments hosted on the school's
Tuscaloosa campus. Since October 2006 she
has worked in the Marion County Public
Schools as a program specialist. "I
used to think it was difficult having two
places I called home – Alabama (where I
lived for 10 years) and Florida (where I was
born and raised)," said Morrison. "In
joining the UNA staff, I feel like I’m
returning home to a state that I am deeply
connected to. I’m excited at the
possibilities ahead for UNA."
