LIONS FINISH FIFTH AT SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGIATE

VALDOSTA, Ga. –The University of North Alabama golf team dropped one spot in the final round but still managed a strong fifth place finished in the Southeastern Collegiate Tournament, hosted by Valdosta State at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.

The Lions Wes Smith tied for fourth overall in the tournament with a 217 total and Daniel Creel was 11th at 220.

The fifth place team finish was UNA's best at the Southeastern Collegiate since tying for fifth in 2003.

West Florida registered a final round 289 (+1) Tuesday to claim a seven stroke victory at the The Argonauts, who won the tournament for the second straight year, shot an 866 (+2) for the tournament.

Florida Southern used a final day rally to move into second place overall, shooting a 291(+3) to finish nine-over par at 873 while Nova Southeastern finished with a three-round total of 878 (+14) after shooting a 299 (+11) on Tuesday.

Georgia College shot a 295 (+7) and finished in fourth with an 884 (+20) while North Alabama followed in fifth with an 891 (+27) after tallying a 304 (+16) in the final round. Armstrong Atlantic shot a 303 (+15) on Tuesday and finished sixth with an 893 (+29) while Valdosta State and Presbyterian both shot 301 (+13) in the final round and tied for seventh at 897 (+33).

Rollins (303 / +15 on Tuesday) and Barry (309 / +21) tied for ninth at 898 (+34) while Lynn claimed 11th with a 35-over 899 after shooting a 294 (+6) in the final round. Florida Gulf Coast (291 / +3) and West Georgia (296 / +8) tied for 14th at 901 (+37) and Florida Tech (314 / +26) and Eckerd (305 / +17) finished tied at 45-over (909). Coker shot a 308 (+20) on Tuesday and finished at 49-over with a 913 while St. Leo finished 61-over par (925) after shooting a 314 (+26) in the final round. Tampa rounded out the field, shooting a 311 (+23) on Tuesday to finish 64-over with a 928.

Lingmerth defeated Presbyterian’s Hugh Morrison (215 / -1) by five strokes as just two individuals finished under par in the tournament. Florida Southern’s Greg Kock shot an even-par 216 to finish third while Matthew Galloway of West Florida, Scott Aydelotte of Lynn and North Alabama’s Wes Smith were all one-over (217) and tied for fourth.
