NORTH ALABAMA'S SMITH NAMED ALL-AMERICA SCHOLAR

FLORENCE -- University of North Alabama senior golfer Wes Smith of Killen has been honored as an All- America Scholar by Cleveland Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America.  A Business Management major, Smith has a cumulative 3.56 grade point average and was previously selected Academic All-Gulf South Conference.

Smith was named honorable mention Ping All-American by the GCAA last Spring and was a second-team All- America selection in 2007.

Smith helped lead UNA to a second place finish in the NCAA Division II National Championships and finished tied for eighth individually. He was also sixth in the Gulf South Conference Championships and tied for fifth in the Division II South Regional.

Smith becomes UNA's fourth golfer to be named All-America Scholar, joining Kevin Kilstrom (1998), Stephen McNair (2003) and Bryant West (2004).
