FLORENCE --
For the second time in four years, University of
North Alabama head football coach Mark Hudspeth
has been selected NCAA Division II Region 2
Coach of the Year by the American Football
Coaches Association.
Hudspeth, in his fifth
season as head coach at North Alabama, led the
Lions to an 11-1 record that included a Gulf
South Conference championship and a berth in the
Division II playoffs for the third time in the
last four years.
Hudspeth has a 44-17
record at UNA since 2002, leading the Lions to
records of 4-7, 13-1, 5-5, 11-3 and 11-1. He has
a solid 14-6 record against nationally ranked
teams and has a 6-3 record in the playoffs.
Hudspeth was previously
named Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year in
2003 and again this season. He also received the
AFCA Region Coach of the Year Award in 2003.
"What makes this award so
special is that this is the only coach of the
year award voted on exclusively by the coaches
themselves," AFCA Executive Director Grant Teaff
said. "The winners are selected by the coaches
they compete with and against on a daily basis."
The AFCA recognizes five regional Coach of the
Year winners in each of the Association's five
divisions (I-A, I-AA, Division II, Division III
and NAIA.
