-- The University of North Alabama football
team earned four first-team All-Gulf South
Conference selections and eight overall in
voting by the league's head coaches.
Senior
offensive tackle J.D. Whited of Oneonta,
Ala., senior defensive lineman Tim Hunt of
Mobile, Ala., senior defensive back Craig
Fox of Kentwood, La., and sophomore
linebacker Michael Johnson of Panama City,
Fla., were named first-team All-GSC. junior
quarterback A.J. Milwee of Boaz, Ala.,
junior right end Covington Wright of
Columbus, Ga., junior center Sam Hathorn of
Corinth, Miss., and junior defensive lineman
Antron Dillon of Hammond, La., were
second-team All-GSC picks.
Whited is a
two-year starter on the UNA offensive line
and has helped clear the way for a UNA
offense that averages more than 40 points
and 400 yards of total offense per game this
fall.
Hunt was a
second-team All-GSC pick in 2005 and moved
up to the first-team this season with 37
tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.
Fox ranks third
on the UNA team in tackles with 61 from his
safety position and also had 205 yards on
turnover returns. He has picked off three
passes that he returned 106 yards and also
had a school-record 99-yard fumble return
against Southern Arkansas.
Johnson, a
two-time All-GSC pick, is the Lions'
second-leading tackler with 64 stops. He has
4.5 tackles for loss, one pass interception
and has forced two fumbles.
Milwee has a
20-2 record as a starting quarterback at UNA
and has already tied the North Alabama
career touchdown record with 42. This season
he has thrown for 2,268 yards and 20
touchdowns and has also rushed for 164 yards
and three more scores.
Wright, a
two-time All-GSC selection, is used
primarily as a blocker in UNA's offensive
scheme but has recorded three catches for 21
yards and a touchdown.
Hathorn moved
to center this season and has been solid on
the UNA offensive line. He is a three-year
letterman and two-year starter for the
Lions.
Dillon has 26
tackles on the defensive front for the Lions
this season. He has 6.5 tackles for loss and
two sacks. He has also recovered two
fumbles, blocked a kick and made a tackle
for a safety.
UNA, 9-1
overall, will open play in the NCAA Division
II playoffs on November 24 at home against
the winner of the Delta State-Shaw game.
