-- Three members of the University of North
Alabama football team have been selected for
All-Southeast Region honors by Daktronics in
voting by the NCAA Division II sports
information directors.
UNA senior
offensive lineman J.D. Whited of Oneonta,
Ala., and senior safety Craig Fox of
Kentwood, La., were named to the first team
Daktronics All-Southeast Region team, while
sophomore linebacker Michael Johnson of
Panama City, Fla., was named second-team
all-region.
Whited is a
two-year starter for the Lions and was
previously named All-Gulf South Conference.
He has helped pave the way for a UNA offense
that is averaging 38 points and 408 yards
per game.
Fox is UNA's
third leading tackler from his safety
position and has recorded 67 stops, with
five tackles for loss, three pass
interceptions and one fumble recovery. Fox
has 106 yards on interception returns and
his 99- yard fumble return for a TD against
Southern Arkansas was a school record. He
was also previously chosen All-GSC.
Johnson leads
the UNA defense with 73 tackles and has
caused two fumbles, recovered one, picked
off a pass and recorded 5.5 tackles for
loss. Johnson is a two-time All-GSC pick.
The trio have
helped lead UNA to a 10-1 record and into
the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division
II playoffs this Saturday ay Valdosta State.
