ALL-GSC TIGHT END MOVES TO INTERIOR LINE
FLORENCE --
The biggest news on the first day of Spring
football practice at the University of North
Alabama was the move of two-time All-Gulf
South Conference tight end Covington Wright
to offensive tackle.
UNA head coach
Mark Hudspeth, who put the Lions through a
two and a half hours of drills on the Lions
first day of Sping practice, said shifting
Wright inside looks like a smart move and
will help fill a void on the offensive line.
Wright is one
of more than 40 players returning for spring
workouts at UNA after helping lead the Lions
to a 10-2 record and into the quarterfinals
of the NCAA Division II playoffs last
season.
Hudspeth said
the first day was a spirited practice with
good effort and good tempo.
He said the
addition of eight transfers and numerous new
freshmen participating in the drills with
the veterans forced the Lions to "keep it
simple while the new guys are picking up the
system."
UNA's top three
running backs - Tim Hicks, David McCants and
Brandenn Pickett - will be missing all or
most of the spring drills and the Lions are
having to run the offense with three walk-on
running backs.
The Lions are
scheduled to practice again on Thursday,
Friday and Saturday of this week
