UNA’S BATSON NAMED ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA

TOWSON, Md. -- University of North Alabama senior punter Will Batson of Killen, Ala., has been named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Economics and Finance major, Augusto has a cumulative 3.61
grade point average and was named second-team Academic All-America.

Batson becomes the 12th UNA student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors and just the second Lion football player to do so.

An All-Gulf South Conference, All-Super Regional 2 and All-American pick last season for the Lions, Batson has already earned first-team All-GSC honors this Fall. His 41.9 average per punt has kept him in the top ten in Division II all season. He was an Academic All-GSC pick in 2008 and he was previously selected Academic
All-District IV this Fall to advance to the national ballot.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA,covering all NCAA championship sports.
