University of North Alabama senior
punter Will Batson and senior offensive
lineman Luke Chenault have been selected
for the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District IV football team.
As a first-team Academic All-District
pick, both will now advance to the
ballot for possible selection to the
Academic All-America team. Both teams
are selected by the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A Killen, Ala., native, Batson has a
3.61 cumulative grade point average (4.0
scale) in Economics and Finance. He was
an Academic All-Gulf South Conference
selection in 2008, in addition to
earning All-GSC, All-Super Region 2 and
All-American honors as a punter last
season. Batson is enjoying another
banner season in 2009 as he ranks
seventh nationally in the NCAA Division
II in punting with a 41.3 average. He
has been the Lions' starting punter for
the last three years.
Chenault, a Moulton, Ala., native, is a
five-year member of the UNA football
program and has a cumulative 3.80 GPA in
Accounting. He was an Academic All-GSC
pick in 2007 and also received the
team's Evan Oglesby Academic Award. This
season, as UNA's starting right guard,
he has helped clear the way for one of
the nation's premier offenses. The Lions
are averaging 42.3 points and 429 yards
per game.
