MARYVILLE. Mo.
-- The University of North Alabama led all NCAA Division II schools with four first-team selections on the 2009 D2football.com All-America team. UNA's four first-team picks led all schools and the Lions had six total selections. In addition, UNA senior linebacker Michael Johnson of Panama City, Fla., was selected as the D2football.com National Defensive Player of the Year.

It is the second national defensive player of the year award for Johnson, as he was previously named the Daktronics Division II Defensive Player of the Year as well.

Three of UNA's first-team picks were on defense where the Lions were represented by Johnson, defensive lineman Montrell Craft and defensive back Quinton Andrews.
UNA senior punter Will Batson was also a first-team All-America pick.

North Alabama offensive lineman Calvin Wilson and wide receiver Mico McSwain were honorable mention All-America picks by D2football.com.

Johnson, Craft, Batson and Wilson were previously named to the Daktronics and Associated Press All-America teams. This is the first All-American selections of the year for Andrews and McSwain.

Wayne State (MI) running back Joique Bell, the 2009 Harlon Hill winner, was named the Offensive Player of the Year. Mel Tjeerdsma, coach of National Champion Northwest Missouri, was named the Coach of the Year.

A total of 53 schools had players selected to the team.
