linebacker Mike Johnson of Panama City,
Fla., has been named Gulf South
Conference Defensive Player of the Week
for his efforts in UNA's 31-14 win over
No. 22 Carson-Newman.
Johnson led UNA in the game with 14
total tackles including a game-high
eight solo stops. He also posted 2.0
tackles for a loss of three yards,
forced one fumble and grabbed one
interception. He made his presence felt
early, stepping in front of a
Carson-Newman pass on the fourth play
from scrimmage to setup UNA's first
score.
In
the fourth quarter, Johnson made a
tackle on fourth-and-goal and also
forced a fumble which UNA recovered on
its own 27 yard line. It is Johnson's
first GSC Player of the Week honor.
