FLORENCE - University of North Alabama junior Charles McClain of Oxford, Ala., has been honored this week as the Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

McClain was the first UNA player to touch the football this season when he fielded a Southern Arkansas punt and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter of Saturday's game in Magnolia, Ark. The score ignited UNA to a 34-3 halftime lead and the Lions rolled to a 41-9 win. It was McClain's second career punt return touchdown. He had a 74-yarder last season against West Alabama.

UNA hosts Carson-Newman Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Lions' 2009 home opener.
