FLORENCE
-- University of North Alabama head
football coach Terry Bowden has
added two new members to his
coaching staff and made several
shifts as the Lions approach their
2010 Spring workouts.
Bowden, who led UNA to an 11-2
record and a Gulf South Conference
championship in his first season at
the school, has added Tony Pecoraro
and Dontae Wright to the defensive
staff. In addition, Jeff Bowden, who
served as a volunteer assistant in
2009, has also been hired as
receivers coach.
Pecoraro will serve as defensive
coordinator and current UNA
assistant head coach Chris Willis
will be co-defensive coordinator.
Pecoraro will also coach the
linebackers. Wright will be the
defensive line and strength coach.
Bowden was also able to elevate
Blake Farris from a graduate
assistant coach to a restricted
earnings position. Farris will
continue to work with the UNA
cornerbacks.
Pecoraro
played linebacker at Lindenwood
University in St. Charles, Mo. He
then finished his undergraduate work
at Florida State where he earned a
Bachelor of Science degree in Sports
Management in 2004. While at FSU he
served as a student assistant coach,
working with the quarterbacks from
2002-04.
Following his graduation from
Florida State, Pecoraro became a
graduate assistant coach at Webber
International University in Babson
Park, Fla., for the 2004 and 2005
seasons.
He served as linebackers coach for
the Warriors. In 2006 he was
elevated to the position of
defensive line coach and recruiting
coordinator at Webber International.
Pecoraro spent the 2007, 2008 and
2009 seasons back in Tallahassee,
Fla., as a defensive graduate
assistant coach at Florida State. He
served as the Defensive Quality
Control coach and worked with the
linebackers for the Seminoles.
During
his coaching career, Pecoraro has
been a part of Atlantic Coast
Conference championship teams in
2002 and 2003. He also helped coach
five bowl teams as Florida State
played in the Nokia Sugar Bowl in
2003, the FedEx Orange Bowl in 2004,
the Music City Bowl in 2007, the
Champs Bowl in 2008 and the Gator
Bowl in 2009.
Wright, a 2007 graduate of Miami
University of Ohio, joins the UNA
staff as defensive line and strength
coach. Wright has spent the last
three seasons as a graduate
assistant coach at the University of
Kentucky.
He worked with the Wildcats'
linebackers in 2007 and with the
defensive line in 2008 and 2009.
Wright was a four-year letterman at
Miami-Ohio where he played
linebacker and on special teams. He
earned a starting role at linebacker
as a senior and was a team captain.
At Lawrence County (Ky.) High
School, Wright played quarterback,
wide receiver and safety and was an
all-state selection in 2001. He also
played in the Kentucky-Tennessee
All-Star Game in 2002.
