JEFF BOWDEN
Associate Head Coach
Receivers
Jeff Bowden is in his second season as an
assistant coach at North Alabama and will
serve the Lions as associate head coach and
receivers coach in 2010. Last season Bowden
joined the UNA staff as a volunteer
assistant and helped direct the Lions to an
11-2 record that included a Gulf South
Conference championship and a spot in the
quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II
playoffs. Three Lion receivers, Preston
Parker, Mico McSwain and T.J. Porter earned
All-GSC recognition. McSwain and Porter were
also all-region selections.
Bowden brought 24 years of collegiate
coaching experience to UNA, having last
served as offensive coordinator at Florida
State from 2001 through 2006.
He Bowden began his collegiate coaching
career in 1983 as a wide receiver’s coach at
Salem College (W.V.) when Terry Bowden was
hired as the head coach there. In 1985 he
was promoted to offensive coordinator at
Salem.
In 1986 he was a graduate assistant coach at
Florida State University before rejoining
Terry on Samford’s staff the following year.
Jeff was the offensive coordinator for the
Bulldogs from 1987 to 1990 and was credited
with guiding the career of current Florida
State head coach Jimbo Fisher in his time as
quarterback at Samford.
From 1991-93 he served as the receivers
coach at the University of Southern
Mississippi before returning to Florida
State in 1994.
From 1994 to 2000 he was a receivers coach
for the Seminoles. In 2001 he followed Mark
Richt as Florida State’s offensive
coordinator and held that post for six
seasons.
Jeff helped lead the Seminoles to 13
consecutive bowl games in his 13 seasons on
the FSU staff, as well as nine conference
titles and one national championship.
A total of 21 of his former players were
drafted or signed as free agents with
National Football League teams, including
NFL Pro Bowl players Laveraneus Coles, Javon
Walker and Anquan Boldin. He also coached
consensus All-Americans in Jeff has coached
consensus All-Americans in Peter Warrick and
Marvin Minnis.
Bowden also coached four Bowl Game MVPs in
Andre Cooper (1996 Orange Bowl), Peter
Warrick (2000 Sugar Bowl), Javon Walker
(2002 Gator Bowl) and Willie Reid (2006
Orange Bowl).
During his playing days he was a wide
receiver at FSU from 1980-83.
Jeff and his wife Cindi have five children,
Haley, Hunter, T.J., Robert and Julia
Elizabeth.
