SIGNS 34 TO NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT
FLORENCE -- University of North Alabama head football
coach Mark Hudspeth has announced the signing of 34 student-athletes
to national letters of intent with the Lion program.
Hudspeth's fourth recruiting class at UNA included 17 offensive
players, 16 defenders and a kicker. UNA's recruiting class is
diverse, with the largest additions coming on the offensive lineman,
the offensive backfield, the defensive backfield and the defensive
line, with each position accounting for six signees. The Lions
have also added the services of six mid-year transfers. The group of
transfers from four-year schools includes quarterback Brett Wilcutt
(6-0, 195) of Bartlett, Tenn., who transferred from Mississippi
State University; defensive lineman Phillip Nola (6-4, 285) of
Hoover, Ala., who transferred from Middle Tennessee State University
and offensive lineman J.D. Whitted (6-4, 290) of Oneonta, Ala., who
transfe rred from Gardner-Webb University. UNA also picked up junior
college transfers in defensive back Jason Campbell (5-11, 185) of
Hernando, Miss., defensive back Ternell Foster (6-1, 190) of Haines
City, Fla., and running back Eric Packer (5-11, 195) of Camden, Ala.
The Lions went 5-5 last season in their third season under Hudspeth
after reaching the semifinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs in
2003.
