THREE LION FOOTBALL PLAYERS EARN
DAKTRONICS REGIONAL HONORS

- University of North Alabama football players Lance Ancar, Anthony
Merritt and Evan Oglesby were recently named to the 2004 Daktronics
All-Southeast Region Team, selected by members of the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSida).
Ancar, a junior from Harvey, La., led the way
as the Lions’ only first team selection. The 284-pound center helped
UNA rack up 1,836 rushing yards on the season. Ancar played in all
10 games for the Lions this season and was one of eight players who
was named an all-regional selection for the second straight year.
First team honorees will move on to the national ballot for the
All-American team, which will be released on Dec. 16.
Merritt, a sophomore from Box Springs, Ga.,
was named to the second team after a solid performance in 2004.
Merritt was in the Top 20 in both kickoff and punt return yardage
this season. He averaged 13.9 yards per punt return and 27.1 y ards
in kickoff returns. He also added an interception on the year.
Evan Oglesby, a senior from Taccoa, Ga., was
an All-American selection in 2003. This year, he continued to post
strong numbers with 45 tackles on the season. He added one tackle
for a loss and had 11 pass deflections, an interception and a
blocked kick.
