LIONS THURSDAY
PRACTICE IS LACKLUSTER
FLORENCE
-- University of North Alabama head football coach Mark Hudspeth
wasn’t overly impressed with the Lions first workout as a full team
Thursday but said the team is continuing to make progress.
After two days of split practices for
the newcomers and veterans, all 115 Lion players came together
Thursday for the first time for a three-hour practice session.
“We didn’t have a great day,” said Hudspeth. “We had a lot of busted
assignments, but it’s just our third day of practice and we have
thrown a lot at them in three days.” Hudspeth said cooler
weather and the sheer number of players on the field provided a bit
of a break for the players. “Everybody’s legs were fresh
today,” he said. “The weather was cooler and with the number of
players we had out, they didn’t get as many repetitions. But it was
good to see the younger guys going against the veterans and it looks
like there are a few young guys who should be able to help us right
away.”
Hudspeth said UNA installed the last
parts of its offense Thursday and spent most of the day reviewing
and working on the kicking game. Hudspeth praised the play of
defensive linemen Skipper Best and Ken Triplett, linebacker Donald
Tharpe and receiver Tyler Harrison. He also praised quarterbacks
Chris Gunn, Vinnie Saylor and Hansell Bearden, all of whom he said
will be competing for the starting job. UNA will continue its
preseason workouts Friday. |
