LIONS WORK THROUGH
HOT PRACTICE WEDNESDAY
FLORENCE
-- Temperatures over 90 degrees beat down on the University of North
Alabama football team Wednesday but head coach Mark Hudspeth said
his team continued to improve. "We had a long practice but the
kids really hung in there and we had some people start to step
forward," said Hudspeth. He said junior Dencen Clay of
Kentwood, La., has come on strong at rover and says there is now a
three-way race at that position with junior Otis Hardy of Orlando,
Fla., and junior Reggie Rice of Tuscaloosa. Hudspeth also
praised the play of freshman receiver Reggie Hubbard of
Russellville, freshman safety Quin Suggs of Russellville and
freshman receiver Chris Russell of Birmingham. He said the UNA
offensive line is also continuing to improve. The Lions are a
little ahead of schedule with their practice sessions, Hudspeth
said, but said there was a good reason for that. "With as many
returning players as we have back, you expect them to pick things up
quickly," he said. "But our new guys are also picking things up
quickly and that's helped us get a lot done so far. "We've had
some nagging injuries but overall we're making good progress."
The Lions will continue practices Thursday and Friday before
scrimmaging again Saturday. UNA will then begin preparations for its
September 4 game at Tusculum next Monday. |
