LIONS COMPLETE SECOND WEEK OF FOOTBALL DRILLS WITH SCRIMMAGE
FLORENCE --
The University of North
Alabama football team completed its second week of Spring football
drills Saturday with a 90-minute scrimmage at the UNA practice
field. Head coach Mark Hudspeth said he say a lot of good
things early but said his players tired as the scrimmage progressed.
"Defensively I thought we got lined up and played well a times but
we got tired and didn't play hard the full scrimmage," Hudspeth
said. "We saw some good things from Tim Hunt and he showed why
he can be one of the best players in this league. Donald Tharpe also
had a good scrimmage and Alfonzo Townsend got tired, but he showed
that he can be an outstanding player for us when he gets in shape."
Overall the Lion defense only allowed one touchdown in the
scrimmage. "Early on our offensive line did a good job and had
a couple of nice drives," Hudspeth said. "Our first team line did a
good job, and even though our second units struggled to be
consistent, they looked better than they usually have at this
point." Hudspeth said that quarterback Vinnie Saylor looked
good at times but was still forcing the ball at times. Hudspeth
praised the play of receivers Anthony Merritt, Marcus Lewis and
Jaron Fountain. "We'll go back and look at the film and
evaluate it and get back to work on Monday," Hudspeth said.
