Tight Ends
Pat Carter, who spent ten years in the
National Football League as a player and
five years in the NFL as a coach, has joined
the UNA coaching staff and will work with
the tight ends.
Carter was a tight end coach with the
Detroit Lions from 2006-08 and was
previously a member of Mike Martz’s coaching
staff with the St. Louis Rams for two
seasons.
A standout at Florida State, Carter was
drafted in the second round (32nd overall)
of the 1988 NFL Draft by Detroit. He played
his rookie season with the Lions (1988)
before moving on to the Rams (1989-93,
1995). He also played one season with the
Houston Oilers (1994) and finished his
10-year career with the Arizona Cardinals
(1996-97). Carter played in 154 NFL games
and had 107 career receptions for 1,117
yards and nine touchdowns. His best pro
season was in 1996 when he registered 26
receptions for 329 yards and a touchdown
with the Cardinals.
Carter earned a bachelor’s degree in social
science at Florida State University. He has
a daughter, Alec, and sons, Jamelle and
Spencer.
