Jack
Redwine was a three-sport letterman for the Lions during his playing career but earned his
greatest fame on the football field where he was selected to the Associated Press
All-American team in 1957 after he led the Lions with 1,438 yards of total offense. That
1,438 yards of total offense was only six yards shy of leading all of college football,
finishing second to Washington State's Bon Newman with 1, 444 yards. He rushed for 808
yards in 1957, with a 192-yard rushing outburst against Livingston.
He also rushed for 180
yards on 10 carries against Jacksonville State in 1956, 148 yards on 10 carries
against Morningside in 1957 and 118 yards against Arkansas State in 1957. He passed for 10
touchdowns and rushed for 14 during his career. A three-year football letterman from
1956-58, this native of Cherokee, Ala., was selected to the Times Daily's Lion All-Decade
team for 1949-58. He also lettered in basketball for the Lions in 1957 and in baseball
from 1955-1958.
Retired after a lengthy career with Ford Motor Company, the 63-year-old Redwine resided in Allen Park, Mich. , at the time of his induction.
