(Basketball 1968-71)

Smith, a four-year
basketball letterman and Florence native, set a school single game
record with 55 points against St. Bernard in 1971. He started for
the Lions basketball teams from 1968-71, scoring 1,477 career points
over 89 games. He also pulled283 rebounds and shot 74.7 percent from
the free throw line.
Smith scored 300
points or more in each of his four seasons with the Lions, including
429 as a senior in 1971.
He received his B.S. degree in had a highly
successful basketball coaching career at Florence-Central High
School, winning eight consecutive county championships and posting a
198-48 record at the school. At the time of his induction he was
principal of Cloverdale Junior High School.
