Hudson, a native of Tuscumbia, was named to the UNA Team of the Decade for 1959-68 on the offensive line. He was also selected for the 50th Anniversary UNA Football Team in 1998. He was a four-year football letterman from 1957-60, playing center and linebacker.

He graduated in 1961 with a degree in Physical Education and History. 

Following college he worked at the Huntsville Boys Club, Boeing Aerospace, New York Life Insurance, the Tennessee Valley Authority and finally the Florence/Lauderdale Port Authority.
