Franklin lettered three years in cross country at UNA from
1985-87. She was a three-time All-Gulf South Conference performer
and was All-Southeast Region in both 1986 and 1987. In 1987, she
also qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships but
was unable to compete due to an injury.
She won the 1987 GSC
individual championship with a time of 19:01 and helped UNA win its
first GSC women’s cross country team title as well that year.
Individually, she finished fourth in the GSC in 1985 and third in
1986.
A native of Florence, Ala., she graduated from UNA in 1991
with a degree in Nursing. She is married to former UNA tennis
All-American an UNA Athletic Hall of Fame member Brice Bishop.
