Redcross was a four-year football letterman from 1990-93 and
was named the Division II National Defensive Player of the Year by
the Football Gazette as a senior. Following 1993 season he was
selected selected first-team All-Gulf South Conference, GSC
Defensive Player of the Year, All-South Region, first-team
All-American by the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors
and the Football Gazette and second-team All-American by the
Associated Press and C.M. Frank He was selected GSC Defensive Player
of the Week in the Lions 44-32 win at Portland State.
He finished
fifth on the team in tackles with 82 total stops, including 51
primary hits. He caused one fumble, recovered three, broke-up six
passes, had 20 quarterback pressures, 15 tackles for loss and seven
sacks for a combined 107 yards in losses. He also blocked an
extra-point. The Lions went 14-0, winning the GSC and NCAA
Division II National Championships.
He played on teams with a
combined 32-14-1 record and helped take the Lions to the NCAA
playoffs in 1990, 1992 and 1993. For his career, he made 179 tackles
in three seasons as a starter on defense, with 104 primary stops, 22
tackles for loss and 10 sacks. He played his freshman season at
tight end. A native of Huntsville, Ala., he was selected for the
50th Anniversary UNA Football Team for 1949-98 and was named to Gulf
South Conference Team of the 1990s.
He is a 2001 UNA graduate with a
degree in Criminal Justice and is currently employed by the Florence
Police Department as a criminal investigator.
