Return to UNA Athletic Hall of Fame

Blount, a native of  Savannah, Tenn., was a four-year letterman in women’s basketball at UNA from 1979-82. Although she played a pivotal role in helping build the UNA program in its infancy, she still holds the career assists record with 783 in 107 games.

That mark is 306 more than the next closest player. She still ranks second in career steals with 204. Blount was an  Alabama Association of Intercollegate Athletics for Women All-State selection in 1980 and 1982.

As point guard for the Lions, she helped lead the team to the AIAW state championship in 1979-80 and to the AIAW Northern Division championship in 1981-82. During her career, the Lions had records of 15-9, 22-10, 22-11 and 16-12.

A 1982 UNA graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Sociology, she went on to a 14-year career as an assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Alabama. She currently resides in Diamondhead, Miss., and works with vocational schools throughout southern Mississippi.
