Jones, a Pinson, Ala.,
native, played five seasons in
the Major Leagues with the
Colorado Rockies and Montreal
Expos. He played in 227 major
league games, which is the most
by any player in UNA history. He
was 128 of 530 in the major
leagues for a .242 average and
stole 27 bases.
While at UNA he was selected
second-team All-American by the
American Baseball Coaches
Association in 1993 after
hitting .360 with two home runs,
21 runs batted in and 35 stolen
bases.
A first-team All-GSC pick in
1993, he played in 99 games in
his career with 318 at bats, 97
runs scored, 113 hits, 42 RBI,
14 doubles, six triples and five
home runs. He added 66 stolen
bases in 73 attempts and hit
.355.
Jones is currently a hitting
instructor in Pelham, Ala. He
resides in Pinson and has two
daughters and a son.
