ARKADELPHIA, Ark.,
- After trailing by as many as nine points
in the second half, the University of North
Alabama men’s basketball team was able to
rally and force overtime before defeating
Ouachita Baptist 98-94 Saturday evening on
the road.
Milton Nance hit one of two free throws with
one second remaining in regulation to tie
the score at 87-87. The Lions then turned up
the defensive pressure in the extra period,
getting three turnovers and outscoring the
Tigers 11-7.
The win ups UNA’s record to 5-6 on the
season. OBU falls to 3-6, including
back-to-back overtime losses.
A layup by the Tigers’ Marks, Jaranimo put
OBU on top 68-59 with 12:11 remaining in the
second half. The Lions, however, used a 15-4
run to take a 74-72 lead. A jumper by Nance
at the 7:15 mark gave UNA its first lead
since midway through the opening half.
Neither team led by more than four points
down the stretch. A jumper by Dawson,
Brandon gave the Tigers an 87-76 lead with
10 ticks on the clock before Nance drew a
foul with one second remaining.
Five UNA players reached double digits in
scoring, led by Esmir Guzonjic’s 25 points.
Nance added 24 points, while Jerrell Vinson
and Quinn Beckwith tossed in 13 and 12
points respectively. Joemal Campbell rounded
out the top scorers for the Lions with 11
points on the night.
UNA will return home Monday night to take on
Arkansas Tech. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at
Flowers Hall.
