FLORENCE
– Milton Nance scored 43 points to
lead the University of North Alabama men’s
basketball team to a 94-91 win over Arkansas
Tech Monday evening at home.
The senior from Killen, set a new UNA record
for most points scored at Flowers Hall,
breaking a 19-year mark of 42 set by Louis
Newsome in 1988. He helped the Lions rally
twice in the contest, scoring seven of the
team’s final eight points down the stretch
to secure the win.
UNA (6-6) fell behind early in the contest
as the Wonder Boys raced out to a 17-5
advantage in the game’s first five minutes.
A three-pointer by Nance, however, capped a
25-12 run to give the Lions a 30-29 lead
with
7:32 remaining in the first half.
UNA took a 51-47 lead into the locker room,
only to see ATU (2-7) again take control
midway through the second half. The Wonder
Boys led by as many as nine points in the
final three minutes before the Lions made
their final charge.
Nance hit his ninth three-pointer of the
night as the Lions used a 12-3 run to grab a
91-90 lead with 31 seconds remaining. Donald
McCoy hit one of two free throws for ATU to
tie the game before a pair of foul shots by
Nance and one from Esmir Guzonjic made the
final margin 94-91.
Guzonjic added 20 points and 14 rebounds to
score a double-double for the Lions. The
Wonder Boys were led by Brandon Glenn’s
21-point effort.
UNA will travel to face Southern Arkansas on
Dec. 21. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Thursday
night in Magnolia, Ark.
