Milton Nance added 22 as the University of
North Alabama men's basketball team opened
its 2006-07 season with a solid 94-84 win
over perennial NCAA Division II power Lynn
at Flowers Hall.
UNA led early
but Lynn earned a hard-fought tie at the
half at 44- 44. After Lynn jumped out to a
brief lead in the second half, it was a
flury of baskets by Beckwith, including
three three-pointers, that staked the Lions
to the lead.
Five Lions
scored in double figures as Jerrell Vinson
and Esmir Guzonjic added 15 each and Casey
Holt had 10.
Darnell Kirkwood led four Knights in double
figures with 16. Evan Cohn and Hans Schur
had 15 each and Andrew Smith had 14.
UNA shot 55.2
percent from the floor and hit seven of 21
three- point baskets. UNA struggled from the
line at times and made 23 of 34 free throws.
Lynn was just 9-of-23 on three-pointers.
North Alabama
host Southern Arkansas Tuesday at Flowers
Hall.
