PENSACOLA, Fla.,
– Esmir Guzonjic was a perfect
13-of-13 from the field, scoring 26 points
and leading the University of North
Alabama’s men’s basketball team to an 85-78
road victory over West Florida Saturday
evening in Gulf South Conference action.
UNA trailed 73-68 with 5:53 remaining before
a 9-0 spurt gave the Lions the lead for
good. Consecutive baskets by Guzonjic
followed by a three-pointer by Milton Nance
keyed the run.
The Argonauts were able to cut the lead to
three in the final minute before a UWF
turnover and a three-point shot by Quinn
Beckwith put the game out of reach.
Guzonjic added 10 rebounds to his 26 points
while Nance tallied 22 points with eight
assists. Beckwith had 14 points, six assists
and four steals. The Lions shot 50.0 percent
from the field, and 9-for-22 from
three-point range. They were just 4-for-12
from the line, however.
The win ups the Lions’ overall record to
12-10 on the season with a 5-2 mark in GSC
play. UNA will travel to face Valdosta State
on Monday in a pivotal GSC showdown. The two
teams enter the match-up tied for second
place in the East Division with identical
5-2 conference records.
